Reminder: Chrome Browser now displays “Not Secure” warnings if you do not have an SSL certificate

Is your website secure?

The date has now passed and with effect from July 2018 the Google Chrome Browser will now clearly say if your website is ‘Not Secure’ if you do not have an SSL certificate so that it runs via HTTPs.

What does this mean to me?

Potentially this could have a direct impact on the users to your website.  If Google tells them your website is non-secure, will your users not worry and stay on the site or will they worry and leave and go elsewhere, which potentially could mean a loss of business for you.

Google wants to make the web a ”safer place” for everyone to browse and have said that "user security has always been a top priority".

What does an SSL certificate do?

SSL certificates will protect the sensitive data transmitted from and to your website and this includes information such as login details, email signups, addresses, payment and personal information.

An SSL certificates job is to encrypt the connection between the website and the browser, and this ensures that all data passed between the web server and browsers remain private and this in turn protects your visitors’ information.

Having an SSL certificate can help with...

With the Google Chrome browser being the most popular worldwide with somewhere between 50% & 60% of users choosing it as their primary browser, we know a lot of users will be seeing this Not Secure message if you do not have an SSL.

It will also help build credibility and trust for your customers as a benefit of having an SSL certificate is your website will be displayed with a security padlock in the address bar of the browser and this will help to build a visitors trust, knowing that the connection is secure, that you take their privacy seriously and they're in safe hands.
